China’s Factory-Gate Inflation Cools in July as PPI Growth Slows to 3.5%

China’s producer price inflation eased in July 2026, with the Producer Price Index (PPI) rising 3.5% year-over-year, down from a 4.1% increase in June 2026. The latest data, updated on 09 August 2026, indicate a moderation in factory-gate price pressures compared with the same period a year earlier.

The year-over-year comparison framework shows that while producer prices are still growing, the pace has decelerated from the previous month. In June, the PPI’s 4.1% annual gain reflected stronger cost pressures at the industrial level, whereas July’s 3.5% suggests some easing in price growth across China’s production sectors.

For markets and policymakers, the softer PPI reading could point to a slight cooling in upstream inflation dynamics. As the PPI tracks changes in prices that manufacturers receive for their goods, the slowdown in July may have implications for corporate margins, pricing power, and, with a lag, broader consumer inflation trends.
