Industrial production in Slovakia rose by 2.1% year-on-year in June 2026, defying expectations of a 0.6% decline. This increase ended a four-month downturn and marked the second monthly gain of the year.
The recovery was driven by higher output in 10 of the 15 monitored industrial sectors. The manufacture of basic metals led the upturn, expanding by 6.6% and providing the largest positive contribution to overall growth. Production also jumped in the manufacture of chemicals and chemical products (up 30.8%) and in machinery and equipment n.e.c. (up 6.6%). After four consecutive months of contraction, the manufacture of motor vehicles returned to growth, rising 1.7%.
In contrast, the manufacture of computer, electronic and optical products slumped by 36.5%, exerting the greatest negative impact on industrial production. On a seasonally adjusted basis, output fell by 0.7% compared with May. Over the first half of 2026 as a whole, industrial production was down 0.8% year-on-year.
