Mexican Consumer Sentiment Eases in August as PCSI Edges Down to 52.77

Mexico’s Thomson Reuters IPSOS Primary Consumer Sentiment Index (PCSI) dipped in August 2026, signaling a modest cooling in consumer confidence. The index eased to 52.77 in August from 53.74 in July, based on month-over-month comparison data updated on 12 August 2026.

The decline follows July’s stronger reading and suggests that, while sentiment remains in positive territory above the 50-point mark, Mexican consumers have turned slightly more cautious heading into late Q3. The “Actual” comparison reflects August’s movement versus July, while the “Previous” comparison tracks July’s change against June, highlighting a softening trend in recent monthly momentum.

Investors and policymakers will be watching upcoming releases closely to determine whether August’s downtick represents a short-term pause or the start of a more sustained loss of confidence among Mexican households. For now, the index level indicates that optimism persists, but with less intensity than in the prior month.
