French HICP Rebounds in July, Snapping Prior Month’s Decline

France’s Harmonised Index of Consumer Prices (HICP) swung back into positive territory in July 2026, rising 0.6% month-on-month after a 0.3% decline in the previous month. The latest data, updated on 14 August 2026, indicate a clear rebound in price dynamics following June’s negative print.

On a month-over-month basis, the July increase contrasts sharply with the prior reading, which showed a 0.3% drop compared with May. The turnaround suggests that some of the temporary downward pressures seen earlier in the summer have eased, with consumer prices in France moving higher again relative to June.

The HICP, which is harmonised across the European Union to allow cross-country comparisons, is closely watched by investors and policymakers as a gauge of inflation trends. July’s 0.6% month-on-month rise will feed into broader assessments of price stability in the euro area and could influence expectations about the future course of monetary policy.
