The Bulgarian economy expanded by 2.7% year-on-year in the second quarter of 2026, slowing from a revised 2.9% in the previous quarter, preliminary estimates show. This was the weakest growth rate since the first quarter of 2024. The deceleration was driven by softer domestic demand: growth in final consumption eased to 7.6% from 8.0%, while gross fixed capital formation slowed to 8.0% from 8.5%. In the external sector, exports continued to contract but at a reduced pace, declining 2.8% after a 7.3% drop in the previous quarter, whereas import growth moderated to 6.9% from 8.2%. On a quarterly basis, GDP increased by 0.6% in the second quarter, slightly below the 0.7% recorded in the first quarter and the weakest quarterly performance since the third quarter of 2025.
