Indonesia Stocks Extend Decline

Indonesian shares slipped 21 points, or 0.3%, to 6,482 in early Wednesday trade, extending losses for a second consecutive session as investors returned from the holiday break. Sentiment was weighed down by softer U.S. equity futures ahead of Nvidia’s earnings release and renewed concerns over potential U.S. trade measures targeting Canada.

On the domestic front, the Indonesian Stock Exchange announced plans to lower the minimum share price from IDR 50 to IDR 1 by September 7. While the move is intended to enhance market liquidity, it has also prompted caution among traders over its possible impact on asset valuations.

Investors are also positioning ahead of several key data releases due next week, including August inflation figures and July trade data. Downside pressure was partially offset by robust digital transaction growth in July, with the rapid uptake of QRIS payments supported by Bank Indonesia helping to underpin market optimism.

Sector-wise, transport, energy, and property led the declines. Among the notable laggards were Indosat (-3.4%), Medco Energi (-2.9%), Bank Rakyat Indonesia (-1.6%), and Charoen Pokphand (-1.0%).
