Sweden Consumer Morale at 21-Month High

Sweden’s household confidence indicator rose to 98 in August 2026 from an upwardly revised 97.2 in July, reaching its highest level since November 2024. The improvement was driven by a more positive view of the overall economy: households’ assessment of economic conditions over the past 12 months strengthened (to -15 from -19), and their expectations for the coming year also improved (to -3 from -8).

Perceptions of personal finances were unchanged. Assessments of financial conditions over the past 12 months held steady at 4, and expectations for the next 12 months remained at 9.

Concerns about the labor market eased. Expectations for unemployment over the next year declined (to 17 from 22), and perceptions of the risk of becoming unemployed improved slightly (to -1 from -2).

Meanwhile, saving intentions were unchanged at 49, while plans to purchase capital goods became marginally less negative (to -12 from -13).

Households estimated current inflation at 9.2% in August, down from 9.3% in the previous month. Expected inflation over the next 12 months also edged lower, to 6.8% from 6.9%.
