Brazil Loan Growth Slows

The stock of outstanding loans in Brazil’s financial system inched up 0.3% in July 2026 from the previous month, holding at R$7.4 trillion and decelerating from June’s 0.7% rise. Corporate lending declined 0.7% to R$2.7 trillion, while household credit grew 0.8% to R$4.6 trillion, leaving both aggregates broadly stable in nominal terms. Year-on-year, total credit expanded 9.5%, slightly below the 9.7% growth recorded in June. Household lending continued to outpace corporate credit, advancing 10.8% over 12 months, whereas credit to legal entities slowed further to 7.4% from 7.9%.

Credit with free resources totaled R$4.2 trillion, essentially flat compared with the previous month, edging down 0.1% on a monthly basis but rising 7% from a year earlier. Firmer household credit with free resources (up 1% month-on-month) offset a 1.9% monthly drop in corporate credit. Despite the short-term divergence, both household and corporate segments remained above their levels of a year earlier.
