Copper Edges Lower as Dollar Strengthens

Copper futures slipped to around $6.55 per pound on Monday, extending losses into a fourth consecutive session as the US dollar strengthened amid rising expectations of a Federal Reserve rate hike next month, following hawkish comments from Chair Kevin Warsh. A firmer dollar makes dollar-denominated commodities such as copper more expensive for buyers using other currencies, dampening near-term demand. Signs also emerged that the recent supply squeeze may be easing, with the premium of spot copper over three-month futures narrowing, while LME inventories have improved on the back of increased metal deliveries. Even so, traders have continued redirecting copper shipments to the US ahead of potential new import tariffs, tightening availability in other regions. Ongoing mining disruptions in key producing countries, including Indonesia, the Democratic Republic of Congo, and Chile, further underscored concerns over global supply.
