Indonesia unexpectedly recorded a trade surplus of USD 0.13 billion in July 2026, confounding market expectations of a USD 0.3 billion deficit and down from a USD 4.13 billion surplus in the same month a year earlier. This marked the country’s first monthly trade surplus in three months, driven by stronger-than-anticipated export performance. Exports rose 6.05% year-on-year, easing from an 8.84% gain in June but beating the consensus forecast of a 3.4% increase. Meanwhile, imports jumped 27.02% year-on-year, above estimates of 24.1% and moderating from a 34.27% surge in June, supported by higher oil prices.
