UK House Prices Edge Higher in August as Nationwide HPI Turns Positive

The United Kingdom’s housing market showed tentative signs of firming in August, as the Nationwide House Price Index (HPI) moved back into positive territory on a month-over-month basis. According to data updated on 1 September 2026, prices rose 0.2% in August, following a 0.1% decline previously.

Both the current and prior readings refer to changes recorded in August 2026, but on a comparative basis: the latest “Actual” figure reflects the change from July to August, while the “Previous” figure captures the change from June to July. The shift from -0.1% to 0.2% suggests a modest improvement in short-term price momentum after a small monthly contraction.

While the month-over-month rise is slight, the move into positive territory will be closely watched by market participants as a potential indication of stabilisation in UK house prices after recent softness. Investors and analysts are likely to look to subsequent releases to confirm whether August marks the start of a more durable trend.
