Austria’s Harmonised Inflation Inches Up to 2.9% in August, Ending Recent Cooling Trend

Austria’s Harmonised Index of Consumer Prices (HICP) edged higher in August 2026, rising to 2.9% year-over-year from 2.7% in July 2026, according to data updated on 1 September 2026. The uptick marks a slight reversal of the recent cooling pattern in inflation, as measured on a harmonised basis across the European Union.

Both the current and previous readings compare price growth in each respective month with the same month a year earlier. In July, prices were 2.7% higher than in July a year before, while in August they were 2.9% higher than in August of the prior year. The modest acceleration suggests that while inflationary pressures remain relatively contained compared with earlier peaks, they have not fully abated in Austria’s economy.
