Philippines Core CPI Eases to 4.1% in August, Extending Gradual Disinflation Trend

Core consumer price inflation in the Philippines edged down to 4.1% year-over-year in August 2026, from 4.2% in July, according to data updated on 4 September 2026. The measure compares price changes in August 2026 with those in August 2025, indicating a modest but continued easing in underlying inflationary pressures.

The slight decline in the core CPI suggests that price growth, excluding volatile items, is stabilizing after having been higher earlier in the year. With July’s reading also measured on a year-over-year basis, the back-to-back comparison points to a gradual cooling pattern rather than a sharp reversal.

While the change from 4.2% to 4.1% is incremental, it may be viewed by policymakers and markets as a sign that underlying inflation is moving in a more manageable direction, potentially influencing expectations for future monetary policy decisions if the trend persists in the coming months.
