Mexico’s Core CPI Eases Further in August, Signaling Softer Price Pressures

Mexico’s core consumer price index (CPI) continued to moderate in August 2026, rising 0.16% month-over-month, down from a 0.23% increase in July 2026. The latest data, updated on 9 September 2026, indicate a further easing in underlying inflationary pressures.

On a month-over-month basis, the comparison shows that while prices are still increasing, they are doing so at a slower pace than in the previous month. July’s 0.23% gain represented an acceleration over June, but August’s 0.16% reading points to a loss of momentum in core price growth. This deceleration could be interpreted by markets as a sign that underlying inflation is becoming more contained, potentially influencing expectations around future monetary policy decisions.

The core CPI measure, which typically excludes more volatile components, is closely watched by investors and policymakers as a gauge of persistent inflation trends. The softer August figure versus July suggests that, at least for now, Mexico’s price dynamics may be gradually stabilizing on a month-to-month basis.
