Brazil’s August Inflation Eases to 4.22% Year-on-Year, Extending Downward Trend

Brazil’s consumer inflation slowed in August 2026, with the year-over-year Consumer Price Index (CPI) easing to 4.22%, down from 4.44% in July 2026. The latest reading, updated on 11 September 2026, confirms a continued moderation in price pressures on an annual basis.

Both figures are measured on a year-over-year basis, comparing each month with the same month a year earlier. The July figure of 4.44% reflected the inflation rate relative to July of the previous year, while the August reading of 4.22% compares prices with those in August a year ago. The step down from July to August signals a gradual cooling in inflation over the late summer period.

For markets and policymakers, the latest CPI print suggests an incremental easing in consumer price growth, which may influence expectations around monetary policy and broader economic conditions as Brazil moves through the second half of 2026.
