US Core Consumer Prices Rise the Most in 4 Months

In the United States, core consumer prices—which exclude food and energy—rose by 0.3% month-over-month in August 2026, the fastest pace since April. This followed a 0.2% increase in July and exceeded market expectations of a 0.2% gain. The advance was driven by higher prices for communication services, airline fares, education, used cars and trucks, and lodging away from home, partly offset by declines in medical care and motor vehicle insurance costs. On an annual basis, the core inflation rate eased to 2.4% in August, the lowest level since March 2021, down from 2.5% in July and in line with market forecasts.
