Passenger vehicle sales in India jumped 33.2% year-on-year in August 2026, up from a 31.2% increase in July, reaching 374,056 units, according to data from the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM). This was the highest August sales figure on record, driven by a low base in the previous year and robust demand. The sharp rise was underpinned by strong consumer confidence, resilient rural markets, better financing conditions, and the faster adoption of alternative drivetrains, all contributing to a supportive environment across vehicle segments. “Festive demand is also expected to provide an additional boost, resulting in healthy Q2 numbers,” said Rajesh Menon, Director General of SIAM.
