The TAIEX, Taiwan’s benchmark stock index, climbed 692 points, or 1.5%, to 48,411 in Tuesday morning trading, extending its winning streak to a fifth consecutive session and setting a new record high. The rally was driven primarily by electronic technology shares.
The index crossed the 48,000 threshold for the first time on June 23, 2026, when it touched an intraday peak of 48,219 before retreating. On Tuesday, the electronic technology subindex advanced 1.8%. Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) — the world’s largest contract chipmaker and accounting for more than 40% of the market’s total capitalization — edged up 0.6%.
Other major tech names posted stronger gains: MediaTek and ASE Technology Holding jumped 8.6% and 6.3%, respectively. United Microelectronics surged 6.1%, while Unimicron Technology Corp. rallied 9.8%.
The broader market followed Wall Street higher, supported by robust demand for AI-related stocks, while easing oil prices and lower US Treasury yields provided additional support. Sentiment was further boosted by optimism ahead of this week’s Trump–Xi summit, where discussions are expected to focus on AI and tariffs.
