Borrowing costs climbed in afternoon trading after US President Trump delivered sharply escalatory remarks about Iran in his address to the UN, dampening expectations for a diplomatic breakthrough that could restore fuel exports from the Middle East. Higher yields weighed heavily on credit‑sensitive financials: major banks including JPMorgan, Wells Fargo, and Morgan Stanley each fell about 4%.
In contrast, AI momentum continued to support software developers and AI infrastructure names. The latest catalyst was the strong market reception for Meta’s new Muse AI agent. Meta’s shares have risen 13% over the past two sessions, while Micron advanced 3%. Sandisk also traded higher after receiving an analyst upgrade from Rosenblatt.
