India’s BSE Sensex fell 1.5% to close at 72,772 on Monday, its lowest level since early April, erasing the gains from the previous session amid broad-based selling. Sentiment weakened on renewed geopolitical tensions and a sharp rebound in crude oil prices after US President Trump rejected Iran’s proposal to resolve the standoff and reopen the Strait of Hormuz. Elevated global bond yields and continued foreign portfolio outflows added to the pressure on equities.
Losses were recorded across all sectors, with pronounced weakness in infrastructure, energy, banking, financial services, auto, and consumer stocks. Among the major laggards were L&T (-2.8%), Power Grid (-2.6%), Adani Ports (-2.4%), HDFC Bank (-2.3%), Hindustan Unilever (-2.3%), Reliance Industries (-2.2%), and State Bank of India (-2.1%).
