Australia Commodity Prices Rise at Slowest Pace in 6 Months

The Reserve Bank of Australia’s Index of Commodity Prices rose 15.5% year-on-year in September 2026, easing from an upwardly revised 16.2% increase in August and marking its weakest annual gain since March. The advance was broadly based across most commodity groups, with iron ore, alumina, and copper ore the main exceptions. In Australian dollar terms, the index was 6.6% higher than a year earlier.

On a monthly basis, the index increased 1.4% in September in SDR terms, following a downwardly revised 0.3% rise in August. All major subindices—rural, non-rural, and base metals—posted gains over the month. In Australian dollar terms, the index rose 1.0% on a month-on-month basis.
