Ireland Harmonised Inflation Climbs to 3-Year High

Ireland’s EU-harmonised inflation rate (HICP) accelerated to 3.9% year-on-year in September 2026, up from 3.4% in August, according to preliminary estimates. This was the highest rate since September 2023 and was largely driven by a sharp increase in energy costs, with energy prices surging 15.3% after an 11.8% rise in the previous month. Services inflation also picked up, climbing to 4.1% from 3.7%, while food price inflation inched up to 0.3% from 0.1%. By contrast, inflation in non-energy industrial goods slowed to 0.9% from 1.3%. Excluding energy and unprocessed food, the harmonised inflation rate rose to 2.8% from 2.6%. On a monthly basis, harmonised consumer prices increased by 0.2%, following a 0.6% gain in August.
