Fiji Inflation Eases From 15-Year High

Fiji’s annual inflation rate slowed to 6.8% in September 2026, down from 7.6% in August, when it had reached its highest level since December 2011. The deceleration was mainly driven by a notable easing in food inflation, which fell to 7.6% from a 28‑month high of 9.5% in August, and in housing costs, where inflation cooled to a four‑month low of 4.9% from 7.0%.

Price pressures also moderated for miscellaneous goods and services (3.1% vs 3.6%) and for furnishings, household equipment, and routine household maintenance (0.1% vs 0.4%). Clothing and footwear prices were unchanged on the year (0.0% vs 1.2% previously).

By contrast, inflation increased for alcoholic beverages and tobacco (13.9% vs 13.3%) and for transport (12.2% vs 11.7%), while education inflation remained steady at 0.4%. Prices for recreation and culture continued to decline and did so at a slightly faster pace (-1.5% vs -1.4%).

On a monthly basis, the consumer price index (CPI) fell by 0.4% in September, following a 0.1% decrease in August, marking the third consecutive monthly decline.
