UK House Prices Stagnate in September

The Lloyds House Price Index showed that UK house prices were flat year-on-year in September 2026, after a 0.4% annual decline in August. On a monthly basis, prices were also unchanged, following a 0.3% fall in August and undershooting expectations for a 0.2% rise. The average property price edged up to £298,441.

Lloyds Mortgages Director Andrew Asaam noted that prices have remained resilient despite higher mortgage rates and broader economic uncertainty, with new buyer enquiries reaching their highest level since February. He said the market remains finely balanced between buyer caution and underlying demand, and that any price moves are likely to stay modest.

Regionally, Northern Ireland recorded the strongest annual growth at 7.4%, followed by Scotland at 3.4%, the North East at 2.4%, and the North West at 1.9%. By contrast, Greater London saw the sharpest annual decline at 2.2%, followed by the South East at 2.1% and Eastern England at 1.6%.
