The Baltic Exchange’s dry bulk freight index, which measures shipping rates for vessels transporting dry bulk commodities, fell for a seventh consecutive session on Tuesday, declining about 1.8% to 2,801 points—its lowest level since August 20.
The capesize index, reflecting rates for larger vessels that typically carry 150,000-ton cargoes such as iron ore and coal, dropped around 3.7% to 3,994 points, the lowest reading since late July and its seventh straight daily decline.
The panamax index, which tracks ships that usually transport 60,000 to 70,000 tons of coal or grain, was unchanged at 2,432 points.
Among the smaller vessel segments, the supramax index edged up 0.7% to 1,833 points.
