US stock indices finished higher on Thursday, reversing earlier losses as the selloff in AI infrastructure names eased. The S&P 500 added 0.3%, the Nasdaq ended little changed, and the Dow rose 557 points.
Chipmakers and AI hyperscalers trimmed declines after Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang pushed back on bailout concerns surrounding CoreWeave (+5.9%), saying he did not expect Nvidia to have to rescue the company. The data center operator has become a key test of the sustainability of new businesses rushing to meet surging demand for AI computing.
Firms such as CoreWeave have taken on substantial debt with support from suppliers like Nvidia (-1.8%), stoking worries that circular financing may be inflating demand. Most hyperscalers finished higher, with Microsoft up 1.1% and Oracle gaining 3%.
The chip selloff moderated significantly: Broadcom slipped 0.6% and AMD fell 1.5%, while Micron advanced 1.9%. The Dow’s advance was underpinned by a rebound in Treasuries after a sharp rout that had recently driven yields to multi-year highs.
