UK Inflation Ticks Higher as September CPI Climbs to 3.5% YoY

The United Kingdom’s consumer inflation rate accelerated in September 2026, with the Year-over-Year Consumer Price Index (CPI) rising to 3.5%. This marks an increase from August 2026, when the CPI stood at 3.1% on a Year-over-Year basis.

According to the latest data updated on 21 October 2026, the “actual” figure for September represents the change in prices compared with September a year earlier, while the “previous” August reading reflected the change versus August of the prior year. The move from 3.1% to 3.5% indicates a renewed pickup in price pressures after a softer reading in the previous month.

The acceleration in CPI will likely draw attention from market participants monitoring the UK’s inflation path and its implications for monetary policy, as the data suggest that disinflation momentum may have weakened heading into the autumn.
