HSI edged down 1.04% at 20,242.75 in huge volume on comments from China\'s State Council that it will curb overcapacity in several industries by tightening approval process for investment projects. Then, concerns that China may halt some short-term market boosting measures also weighted on the market sentiment.
Weakness of A-shares also affected HSI. Institutional investors are concerned over current market conditions but they suggest that correction will end soon.
Among decliners are BOC HK down 1.8% at HK$15.44 ahead of 1H results, while Esprit down 13.9% at HK$51.55 after weaker-than-expected FY results, but Wharf up 6.7% after strong 1H results.
