Four major drug manufacturers are preparing earnings reports before the market opens as investors hunger for any information on progress in the development of possible vaccines and treatments for COVID-19.
Analysts say Merck will earn $ 1.44 per share on $ 12 billion in revenue, while Pfizer will earn 69 cents per share on $ 12.3 billion in revenue.
Novartis is expected to report earnings of $ 1.44 per share on revenue of $ 12.6 billion, while Eli Lilly and Company is expected to report earnings of $ 1.71 per share on revenue of $ 5.9 billion.
2. Reports of large industrial and technology companies
Caterpillar is expected to report $ 1.17 in earnings on $ 9.7 billion in revenues, and 3M Company is expected to post earnings of $ 2.26 per share on $ 8.31 billion in revenues.
In the tech sector, Advanced Micro Devices Inc is expected to report a profit of 35 cents on revenue of $2.6 billion, while Microsoft Corporation is expected to report a profit of $1.54 per share on revenue of $35.7 billion.
3. Measuring consumer confidence on the eve of elections
October consumer confidence figures will be released at 10:00 am ET (14:00 GMT). The expected figure is 102, which is slightly higher than the 101.8 in the previous month.
This figure is important as a sign that there is support for spending, which accounts for two-thirds of US economic output. Millions of families are under pressure from job and wage losses, and Congress remains stumped over negotiations for another aid package.
