In a separate review on GBP/USD, we wrote today that the first day of the British Parliament meeting can be considered positive for the Opposition. The main result of the session of Parliament on Tuesday, September 3, can be considered to be the submission to the vote of the bill prohibiting the country to leave the European Union without a "deal". If it will be adopted by the majority of parliamentarians today, it will be a tangible victory of the Opposition over the Prime Minister. However, yesterday, there was another event that attracts attention. As it is not difficult to guess from the title of the article, the Conservatives lost a majority in the Parliament, as one of the members of the party, Philip Lee left the ranks of the Conservatives and joined the Liberal Democrats. In an interview, Lee said that after much deliberation, he decided that it was impossible to further defend the interests of voters and the country as part of the Conservative Party. This is followed by Lee's very important words: "I am offended that a narrow faction was formed from the once Great Party, whose "conservatism" is determined by the strength of each member's desire to unreasonably leave the EU." Philip Lee also believes that the party has contracted populism and British nationalism. This is the first response to Boris Johnson, who had previously threatened members of the same party with exclusions from the Parliament if they would support any laws that prevent the "tough" Brexit on October 31. From our point of view, it was a failure of Johnson, as after his decision to suspend the work of Parliament for 5 weeks, the vast majority of deputies and citizens of the United Kingdom had big complaints about the work of the Prime Minister, as well as questions about the "democratic" decisions taken by the government. Johnson then openly threatens the conservatives with the loss of seats in Parliament if they refuse to support his initiatives. From our point of view, such behavior of Johnson can be defined as "terror". During the reign of Theresa May, about 10 ministers and other senior officials left voluntarily because of disagreement with the Prime Minister's policy. We can observe something similar now. Now, there are 319 out of 639 conservatives left in Parliament. Thus, conservatives can no longer even theoretically adopt any law and Johnson's initiative simply on the basis that there are more of them than members of other parties combined.
