Salesforce.com Inc was the top performer among the components of the Dow Jones index today, up 7.85 points or 3.80% to close at 214.25. Boeing Co rose 7.69 points or 3.66% to close at 217.73. American Express Company rose 5.63 points or 2.93% to close at 197.98.
The biggest losers were Chevron Corp (NYSE:CVX), which shed 0.99 points or 0.73% to end the session at 134.26. 3M Company was up 0.67 points (0.42%) to close at 157.34, while International Business Machines was down 0.21 points (0.16%) to close at 129. 94.
The leading performers in the S&P 500 index today were Monolithic Power Systems Inc, which rose 10.60% to hit 479.27, NVIDIA Corporation, which gained 9.18% to close at 264.95, and also shares of American Airlines Group, which rose 8.09% to close the session at 18.84.
The biggest losers were Fidelity National Information Services Inc, which shed 7.76% to close at 102.85. Shares of IPG Photonics Corporation shed 6.22% to end the session at 137.55. Constellation Brands Inc Class A was down 6.12% to 219.55.
Leading gainers among the components of the NASDAQ Composite in today's trading were Resonant Inc (NASDAQ:RESN), which rose 256.91% to 4.390, Color Star Technology Co Ltd, which gained 93.11% to close at 0 .8881, as well as Tower Semiconductor Ltd, which rose 42.08% to end the session at 47.07.
Larimar Therapeutics Inc was the biggest loser, shedding 52.09% to close at 4.010. Shares of Hudson Capital Inc lost 31.82% and ended the session at 3.420. Quotes of Medpace Holdings Inc decreased in price by 20.30% to 138.87.
On the New York Stock Exchange, the number of securities that rose in price (2491) exceeded the number of those that closed in the red (766), while quotes of 116 shares remained virtually unchanged. On the NASDAQ stock exchange, 3222 companies rose in price, 657 fell, and 162 remained at the level of the previous close.
Shares in IPG Photonics Corporation fell to a 52-week low, down 6.22% or 9.13 points to close at 137.55. 3M Company shares fell to a 52-week low, down 0.42% or 0.67 points to close at 157.34. Shares of American Express Company surged to an all-time high, rising 2.93% or 5.63 points to close at 197.98. Larimar Therapeutics Inc shares fell to a 52-week low, shedding 52.09% at 4.360 to close at 4.010. Tower Semiconductor Ltd surged to a high of 42.08% or 13.94 points to close at 47.07. Shares in Medpace Holdings Inc fell to a 52-week low, shedding 20.30% or 35.36 points to close at 138.87.
The CBOE Volatility Index, which is based on S&P 500 options trading, fell 9.28% to 25.70.
Gold futures for April delivery lost 0.77%, or 14.40, to $1,855.00 a troy ounce. In other commodities, WTI crude for March delivery fell 3.53%, or 3.37, to $92.09 a barrel. Brent oil futures for April delivery rose 0.20%, or 0.19, to $93.46 a barrel.
Meanwhile, in the Forex market, EUR/USD rose 0.03% to hit 1.1359, while USD/JPY shed 0.01% to hit 115.61.
Futures on the USD index fell 0.40% to 95.975.
