US stock market closed mixed, Dow Jones down 0.26%

At the close of the New York Stock Exchange, the Dow Jones was down 0.26% to a 52-week low, the S&P 500 was up 0.25% and the NASDAQ Composite was up 0.98%.

The leading performer among the Dow Jones index components in today's trading was Intel Corporation, which gained 0.94 points or 2.18% to close at 44.01. Salesforce.com Inc rose 3.55 points or 2.17% to close at 167.15. Microsoft Corporation rose 4.92 points or 1.86% to close at 269.50.

The biggest losers were International Business Machines, which shed 5.31 points or 3.95% to end the session at 129.13. JPMorgan Chase & Co was up 2.44% or 2.97 points to close at 118.89, while 3M Company was down 2.14% or 3.26 points to close at 149. ,12.

Leading gainers among the S&P 500 index components in today's trading were Fortinet Inc, which rose 6.76% to hit 261.79, Sysco Corporation, which gained 6.13% to close at 86.05, and Microchip Technology Inc, which edged up 6.13% to end the session at 68.25.

The biggest losers were Dentsply Sirona Inc, which shed 7.31% to close at 36.38. Shares of Newell Brands Inc shed 6.76% to end the session at 22.62. Quotes of Altria Group decreased in price by 6.68% to 51.57.

Leading gainers among the components of the NASDAQ Composite in today's trading were Baosheng Media Group Holdings Ltd, which rose 42.28% to hit 0.74, Appian Corp, which gained 38.59% to close at 59.62. as well as Vroom, which rose 32.41% to end the session at 1.43.

The losers were Embark Technology Inc, which shed 59.03% to close at 1.43. Shares of Upstart Holdings Inc lost 56.42% to end the session at 33.61. Quotes of Cipher Mining Inc decreased in price by 46.75% to 1.72.

On the New York Stock Exchange, the number of securities that fell in price (1878) exceeded the number of those that closed in positive territory (1341), and quotes of 105 shares remained virtually unchanged. On the NASDAQ stock exchange, 2,229 companies fell in price, 1,702 rose, and 175 remained at the previous close.

The CBOE Volatility Index, which is based on S&P 500 options trading, fell 5.06% to 32.99.

Gold futures for June delivery lost 1.04%, or 19.26, to hit $1.00 a troy ounce. In other commodities, WTI crude for June delivery fell 2.94%, or 3.03, to $100.06 a barrel. Brent futures for July delivery fell 3.04%, or 3.22, to $102.72 a barrel.

Meanwhile, in the forex market, the EUR/USD pair remained unchanged 0.23% to 1.05, while USD/JPY was up 0.12% to hit 130.40.

Futures on the USD index rose 0.23% to 103.93.
