At the close on the New York Stock Exchange, the Dow Jones fell 0.33% to hit a 52-week low, the S&P 500 index fell 0.13%, and the NASDAQ Composite index rose 0.06%.
The leading performer among the components of the Dow Jones index today was Home Depot Inc, which gained 6.73 points (2.38%) to close at 289.69. Quotes of 3M Company rose by 3.18 points (2.17%), closing the auction at 149.59. Merck & Company Inc. rose 1.64 points or 1.84% to close at 90.83.
The losers were Boeing Co shares, which fell 6.25 points or 4.83% to end the session at 123.14. American Express Company was up 3.84% or 6.12 points to close at 153.27, while Apple Inc was down 2.69% or 3.94 points to close at 142. 56.
Leading gainers among the S&P 500 index components in today's trading were Tapestry Inc, which rose 15.50% to 30.63, DISH Network Corporation, which gained 14.60% to close at 20.01, and shares of Etsy Inc, which rose 12.92% to end the session at 87.86.
The losers were shares of Synchrony Financial, which fell 6.51% to close at 33.03. Shares of AmerisourceBergen shed 6.01% to end the session at 151.61. WestRock Co lost 5.57% to 47.46.
Leading gainers among the components of the NASDAQ Composite in today's trading were Allena Pharmaceuticals Inc, which rose 70.51% to hit 0.13, Lordstown Motors Corp, which gained 47.02% to close at 2.22, and also shares of Salarius Pharmaceuticals Inc, which rose 38.75% to end the session at 0.22.
The biggest losers were Tenon Medical Inc, which shed 75.65% to close at 8.86. Shares of Apptech Corp lost 34.79% and ended the session at 0.81. Quotes of Rockwell Medical Inc decreased in price by 32.54% to 0.22.
On the New York Stock Exchange, the number of securities that fell in price (1652) exceeded the number of those that closed in positive territory (1589), while quotes of 93 shares remained virtually unchanged. On the NASDAQ stock exchange, 2166 companies rose in price, 1755 fell, and 182 remained at the level of the previous close.
The CBOE Volatility Index, which is based on S&P 500 options trading, fell 2.43% to 31.77.
Gold futures for June delivery lost 1.70%, or 31.56, to hit $1.00 a troy ounce. In other commodities, WTI crude for June delivery rose 0.96%, or 1.01, to $106.72 a barrel. Brent futures for July delivery rose 0.46%, or 0.49, to $108.00 a barrel.
Meanwhile, in the Forex market, EUR/USD fell 1.28% to hit 1.04, while USD/JPY shed 1.24% to hit 128.35.
Futures on the USD index rose 0.90% to 104.81.
