US stock market closes higher, Dow Jones gains 2.68%

At the close on the New York Stock Exchange, the Dow Jones rose 2.68%, the S&P 500 index rose 3.06%, the NASDAQ Composite index rose 3.34%.

Salesforce.com Inc was the top performer among the components of the Dow Jones index today, up 12.87 points or 7.44% to close at 185.92. Quotes of Goldman Sachs Group Inc rose by 16.58 points (5.79%), ending trading at 302.75. Boeing Co rose 7.56 points or 5.64% to close at 141.53.

The losers were shares of Verizon Communications Inc, which shed 1.13 points or 2.17% to end the session at 50.96. UnitedHealth Group Incorporated rose 4.17 points (0.83%) to close at 495.64, while Walmart Inc rose 0.10 points (0.08%) to close at 123. 72.

Leading gainers among the S&P 500 index components in today's trading were Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd, which rose 15.77% to 41.76, Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings Ltd, which gained 15.36% to close at 13. 22, as well as Penn National Gaming Inc, which rose 12.66% to close the session at 32.12.

The biggest losers were Verizon Communications Inc, which shed 2.17% to close at 50.96. Shares of Citrix Systems Inc lost 1.86% to end the session at 96.59. Quotes SolarEdge Technologies Inc fell in price by 1.78% to 286.34.

The leading gainers among the components of the NASDAQ Composite in today's trading were USA Truck Inc, which rose 112.62% to 31.00, Benitec Biopharma Ltd ADR, which gained 64.86% to close at 1.22. as well as shares of Toughbuilt Industries Inc, which rose 55.17% to end the session at 2.70.

The biggest losers were Tenax Therapeutics Inc, which shed 46.86% to close at 0.31. Shares of Panbela Therapeutics Inc lost 42.80% to end the session at 0.61. Quotes of Meta Materials Inc decreased in price by 38.74% to 1.17.

On the New York Stock Exchange, the number of securities that rose in price (2638) exceeded the number of those that closed in the red (523), while quotes of 105 shares remained virtually unchanged. On the NASDAQ stock exchange, 2505 companies rose in price, 1264 fell, and 203 remained at the level of the previous close.

The CBOE Volatility Index, which is based on S&P 500 options trading, fell 6.27% to 27.23.

Gold futures for August delivery lost 0.11%, or 2.05, to hit $1.00 a troy ounce. In other commodities, WTI crude for August delivery rose 3.17%, or 3.31, to $107.58 a barrel. Futures for Brent crude for August delivery rose 2.77%, or 3.05, to $113.10 a barrel.

Meanwhile, on the Forex market, EUR/USD was flat at 0.29% at 1.06, while USD/JPY edged up 0.21% to hit 135.21.

Futures on the USD index fell 0.29% to 103.89.
