The US stock market review

According to the trading results Dow Jones Industrial Average index rose by 30.46 points or by 0.29% to 10437.42 points, having closed again at the highest level for this year and simultaneously at the highest level since October 2, 2008. Standard & Poor\'s 500 index moved up by 1.01 points or by 0.09% to 1110.31 points, while technologically-oriented Nasdaq Composite climbed by 5.93 points or by 0.27% to 2203.78 points. Both indices closed at the highest levels for more than 13 months. The wave of the raw materials and energy companies\' shares purchases supported the market amid the commodities prices increase. During last weeks following to the impulse traders bought oil and metals that pushed up shares quotations of these two sectors. Some world economic data furthered the growth pointing the demand growth of these goods and inflationary fears.

Exxon Mobil shares quotations ticked up by 60 cents or by 0.8% to 75.03 USD. Another energy company Massey Energy shares went up by 2.17 USD or by 5.7% to 40.39 USD. Reports about industrial output, producer prices and the housing market helped to restrain stock indices growth. All these reports fell short of expectations.

Moreover, shares of many consumer sector companies dropped in price. Although retail chain Target’s profit soared in Q3 by 18%, the company said that there is an opportunity to fall short of analysts’ expectations in Q4. Target shares slumped by 1.52 USD or by 3% to 48.77 USD. Home Depot stocks quotations, the largest American retail chain, specializing in home products sales, slid by 66 cents or by 2.4% to 26.99 USD. The company profit reduction was 8.9% in Q3 amid the weak demand as consumers still moderately spend their funds on home improvement. Home Depot also enhanced profit forecast at the year-end, but at the same time marked persisting concerns.
