
At the close of the New York Stock Exchange, the Dow Jones rose 0.01% to hit a monthly high, the S&P 500 fell 0.74% and the NASDAQ Composite fell 2.04%.
Visa Inc Class A was the top gainer among the components of the Dow Jones in today's trading, up 8.95 points or 4.60% to close at 203.33. Quotes of 3M Company rose by 4.20 points (3.54%), closing the session at 122.70. Amgen Inc rose 6.67 points or 2.57% to close at 266.66.
The losers were Boeing Co shares, which lost 12.86 points or 8.77% to end the session at 133.79. Microsoft Corporation was up 19.34 points (7.72%) to close at 231.32, while Salesforce Inc was down 5.36 points (3.24%) to close at 159.91 .
The leaders of gains among the components of the S&P 500 in today's trading were Universal Health Services Inc, which rose 13.13% to 109.37, Rollins Inc, which gained 10.04% to close at 39.55, and also Enphase Energy Inc, which rose 9.90% to end the session at 291.87.
The biggest losers were Assurant Inc, which shed 10.47% to close at 136.75. Shares of Alphabet Inc Class C shed 9.64% to end the session at 94.82. Quotes Alphabet Inc Class A fell in price by 9.14% to 94.93.
Leading gainers among the components of the NASDAQ Composite in today's trading were ESSA Pharma Inc, which rose 180.23% to hit 4.82, Cipher Mining Inc, which gained 42.56% to close at 1.18, and also shares of Loyalty Ventures Inc, which rose 39.60% to end the session at 1.15.
The biggest losers were Thermogenesis Holdings Inc, which shed 49.56% to close at 0.11. Shares of Fednat Holding Co lost 30.98% and ended the session at 0.42. Taysha Gene Therapies Inc lost 27.52% to 2.16.
On the New York Stock Exchange, the number of securities that rose in price (1854) exceeded the number of those that closed in the red (1254), while quotes of 123 shares remained virtually unchanged. On the NASDAQ stock exchange, 2201 companies rose in price, 1582 fell, and 226 remained at the level of the previous close.
The CBOE Volatility Index, which is based on S&P 500 options trading, fell 4.15% to 27.28, hitting a new monthly low.
Gold futures for December delivery added 0.60%, or 9.95, to $1.00 a troy ounce. In other commodities, WTI crude futures for December delivery rose 3.31%, or 2.82, to $88.14 a barrel. Futures for Brent crude for January delivery rose 2.51%, or 2.30, to $94.04 a barrel.
Meanwhile, on the Forex market, EUR/USD rose 1.17% to hit 1.01, while USD/JPY shed 1.03% to hit 146.38.
Futures on the USD index fell 1.16% to 109.55.
