The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) firmly and unwaveringly rejects the creation of a spot bitcoin ETF from Skybridge Capital and First Trust

The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) takes a strong and unwavering position and rejects the proposal of the hedge fund Skybridge Capital and the investment consulting firm First Trust to create an exchange-traded fund bitcoin-ETF

However, many were confident in such a decision and did not take it with hostility. Until now, the Securities and Exchange Commission had its own personal preferences and sympathized more with the bitcoin futures market than with spot ETFs for bitcoins.

The SEC still does not find the key prerequisites for creating a spot Bitcoin ETF. This decision could already have been predicted by various analysts, since a month ago the SEC rejected the proposal of the investment firm Kryptoin to create a spot bitcoin ETF.

Skybridge is not discouraged and believes that in the near future the SEC will give the green light if the parties are more prepared for cooperation.

First Trust and Skybridge Capital have already applied to create a spot ETF for placement on the New York Stock Exchange back in March last year.

The Securities and Exchange Commission postponed the decision until July, and then in general until the end of autumn. This process went on until January, and the companies did not receive any positive feedback.

Many analysts expected a rejection by the SEC, as it prefers to monitor the bitcoin futures market rather than spot bitcoin ETFs.

The SEC has previously approved the creation of futures ETFs from ProShares (BITO) and Bitcoin strategy ETF Valkyrie (BTF). Accordingly, many analysts are confident that the next decision will again turn out to be a red light for Fidelity investments, which has submitted its application to create a spot bitcoin ETF.

It is clear that the SEC does not like the creation of spot ETFs.
