Chevron Corp's (NYSE:CVX) shares rose by 2.03 points (1.28%), closing at 157.09, while Nike Inc's (NYSE:NKE) shares decreased in price by 1.59 points (1.27%) and ended trading at 123.51.

At the New York Stock Exchange, the number of advancing stocks (1604) exceeded the number of declining stocks (1315), while the quotes of 122 shares remained virtually unchanged. The CBOE Volatility Index, which is based on trading indicators of options on the S&P 500, fell by 4.35% to a value of 16.94.
According to data from the US Department of Labor, annual inflation in the country for April slowed down to 4.9%, while analysts forecasted it to remain at the March level of 5%. The annual inflation indicator is at its lowest since April 2021.
Gold futures for June delivery lost 0.26%, or 5.25, reaching a value of $2.00 per troy ounce. As for other commodities, prices for WTI crude oil futures for June delivery fell by 1.23%, or 0.91, to $72.80 per barrel. Brent crude oil futures for July delivery declined by 1.05%, or 0.81, to a value of $76.63 per barrel.
Meanwhile, in the Forex market, the EUR/USD pair did not change significantly by 0.21% to 1.10, and the USD/JPY quotes fell by 0.64%, reaching 134.35.
The USD index futures dropped by 0.17% to 101.23.
