The Chinese government adopted a decree to ban Apple gadgets from government purchases. Thus, the authorities expanded their blacklist of companies the products of which could never be applied by government employees. According to the source familiar with the situation, such Apples devices like iPad, iPad Mini, MacBook Air, MacBook Pro and others were excluded from the government purchasing.
Speaking to journalists, an unnamed official uncovered the reason for such a decision. The thing is that China feels apprehensive about its national security, thus having doubts over Apple products amid the latest events. In particular, it is the America-China spy scandal. After Edward Snowden’s sensational revelations concerning the activities of the National Security Agency as well as partnership between IT companies with the U.S. intelligence, the Chinese authorities pay special attention to cybersecurity now.
The conflict is not over yet. The United States and China keep exchanging accusations of industrial espionage. In May, five Chinese officers were alleged to have been involved in cyber espionage. In June, a range of China’s national media, including People’s Daily and China Daily, accused such American giants like Apple, Cisco Systems, Facebook, Google, Microsoft and Yahoo! of undermining the cybersecurity of China and its users.
