French-based auto maker Bugatti is planning to create the successor model of its EB16.4 Veyron which will have a hybrid engine, Reuters said citing sources with the knowledge of the matter.
The high-performance luxury automobiles manufacturer has developed a blueprint for the model that would have a 16-cylinder engine, 500-horsepower and might cost up to $1.7 million. The series may be limited to about 450 cars. The new Bugatti is expected to make its public debut in 2015.
"The new model will not be less exciting than the Veyron," a spokeswoman at Bugatti said. "Our customers have certain expectations."
Bugatti started production of the Veyron series in 2005 and became the world's fastest road car.
Its history dates back to 1999, when the 555-horsepower Chiron concept with a 6.3-liter engine was introduced at the Tokyo Motor Show. The car design was developed by ItalDesign.
With a 1,030 horsepower, Veyron may achieve a top speed of 400 km/h. Later there were other modifications. The most powerful version is said to be Veyron Grand Sport Vitesse producing an output of 1,200 horsepower.
