According to Reuters, Apple’s leadership has been accused of violating employees' rights in the US.
Last week, the US National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) filed a complaint against Apple, accusing the company of violating workers' rights and hindering efforts to improve working conditions. Besides, the tech giant's management allegedly imposed illegal workplace behavior rules.
According to the NLRB, Apple required its US employees to sign confidentiality, non-disclosure, and non-compete agreements, which the National Labor Relations Board deemed illegal. Furthermore, Apple’s leadership set overly strict regulations on employee behavior on social media.
However, the company insists that it respects employees' rights to discuss wages, working hours, and conditions.
But where there is smoke, there is fire. In 2019, the international human rights organization IRAdvocates accused Apple and other corporations of using child labor in African cobalt mines.
Later, in 2021, Ashley Gjovik, a former senior engineer at Apple, filed complaints against the company. She revealed that Apple had implemented rules that prevented employees from discussing pay equity. Moreover, Gjovik accused the company of gender discrimination and other violations. She also claimed that Apple took illegal actions against her after she filed complaints with the NLRB and attempted to organize other employees.
According to some reports, the corporation fired employees who criticized managers and even tried to interfere with union activities.
In August 2021, the European Commission accused Apple of unfair practices against competitors in the streaming app market. A spokesperson for the Commission stated that Apple charged high commissions to competitors on its App Store, while consumers were not informed of alternative subscription options.
