Russian president Vladimir Putin launched the construction of what will be one of the largest gas pipelines in the world, stretching from China to the Russian Far East. The Chayandin gas field in eastern Siberia will be the major source to supply natural gas to China for 30 years. Gas pipes for such a large-scale project will be provided by the Russian manufacturer. The total pipeline construction is estimated to be over 770 billion rubles. Gazprom announced it plans to launch its Chayanda gas field at the end of 2018, aiming to deliver the first batch of gas to China in 2019.
May 21, 2014 Russia’s gas giant Gazprom and China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC) signed a $400 billion deal to ship 38 billion cubic meters of Russian gas to China annually over 30 years. Thus, under the gas supply contract between Russia and China, Gazprom and CNPC signed a cooperation accord to build jointly the huge pipeline called “Power of Siberia”.
