Kazakhstan has become yet another country in the Russia-led trade union that decided to take advantage of Russia’s food import ban. First Belarus, now Kazakhstan are trying to re-export banned western food to Russia. Every day, the Russian veterinary service Rosselkhoznadzor and consumer protection watchdog Rospotrebnadzor record attempts of illegal import of various products from Belarus and Kazakhstan into the territory of the Russian Federation.
Thus, chicken leg quarters from the U.S., widely known in Russia as Bush legs, found a new way to Russia thanks to Kazakhstan. Rosselkhoznadzor informed that its employees prevented illegal import of 20 tons of chicken originally exported from the United States. Trucks with Bush legs were detained at the 191st kilometer of Omsk-Pavlodar route. Head of Rosselkhoznadzor Sergey Dankvert addressed Asylzhan Mamytbekov, Minister of Agriculture of Kazakhstan, saying it is unacceptable “to export products included in the List of banned agricultural products from the United States, Canada, the European Union, Australia, and Norway approved by the Government of the Russian Federation to the RF.”
According to experts, this is not the first time Kazakhstan has tried to export the US poultry to Russia. In August, the truck with 20 tons of American poultry was detained in Cherlaksky district, Omsk region. The goods were sent back to Kazakhstan; and the owner was fined.
