Donald Tusk, the prime minister of Poland, was chosen unanimously by European leaders as the next president of the European Council. The outgoing president, Herman Van Rompuy, congratulated Tusk on his appointment. The European leadership team had a reshuffle in European Union Special Representatives and European Commissioners positions as well. Thus, Italy's Minister of Foreign Affairs Federica Mogerini will be the next EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs to replace Catherine Ashton. Meanwhile, Polish Minister of Foreign Affairs Radek Sikorski will be the next EU foreign policy chief. Van Rompuy said he hopes that Tusk and Mogherini will work together “to defend Europe’s interests and Europe’s values.” European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker congratulated Tusk in Twitter too calling him his friend. Poland now has to decide on who will be its next prime minister.
