The German train drivers' union called a nine-hour nationwide strike beginning at 9 p.m. local time on Tuesday and lasting until 6 a.m. on Wednesday. The strike targets passenger and freight trains as well as commuter trains. Train drivers, conductors, traffic controllers, and staff at dining cars at national rail operator Deutsche Bahn will take part in the strike. German train drivers demand a 5 percent pay rise and a two-hour shorter working week.
Moreover, Lufthansa freight pilots will call a two-week strike. It is to start at 5:00 a.m. on Wednesday and end on Friday at 0:30. The main reason was that the airline said it will raise pilots' early-retirement age.
