Deputy chairman of Gazprom Alexey Miller said that Japanese authorities suggested the company to build gas pipeline to Hokkaido or, probably, to Tokyo. According to his words, Gazprom's participation in energy projects of Japan is also possible.
At present time, the company management considers the Japanese suggestion.
Earlier, Minister of energy of Russia Alexander Novak stated that project of gas pipeline construction is not economically sound. There is a law in Japan that lets the usage of liquefied natural gas for heat production. The construction of gas pipelines has no detailed grounds. According to the Alexander Novak's words, if there are any, they will consider the suggestion.
The gas pipeline length from Sakhalin to Ibaraki Prefecture near Tokyo will make up 1,350km. Construction expenses are estimated at $6 billion. It is expected that deliveries through the pipeline will be 20 billion cbm on year or 17% of the Japanese import.
