Tired of waiting for Bulgaria's consent, Russia announced its denial to build the South Stream pipeline.
In the end, the president of Russia Vladimir Putin declared the plans revisions and the existence of the preliminary agreement with Turkey on the building of gas pipeline on its territory.
Europe propagates actively the refusal of the Russian gas, however, only orally because an alternative supplier able to provide the needed volume under the favorable terms is still not found. At the same time, Russia crosses over to Asian countries and other regions.
Putin described the actions of the European Commission as unconstructive and hinted that Russia plans to extend the liquefied natural gas supplies to other regions so that Europe may face gas disruptions this year.
The main reason of the construction freezing of the South Stream – gas pipeline to Europe bypassing the Ukrainian territory – is the fact that Bulgaria being under the pressure of the European Commission forbade the construction of the part running on its territory. As a result, Russia decided to annul the project despite the invested money.
