The Bank of Russia set the exchange rates of the major currencies on December 31: the US dollar was down by 0.43 ruble to 56.25, and the euro fell by 0.71 ruble to 68.34. By 5:55 pm (Moscow time) the US dollar dropped 1.95 rubles and set at 56.37 and the euro decreased by 2.15 rubles to 68.9 compared to the closing rates the day before.
It’s the last official rate of the Russia’s national currency in 2014. During the year the US dollar gained near 24 rubles, and the euro advanced by 23 rubles.
The Russian ruble demonstrated the decrease during the whole year but its plunge started in autumn amid the falling oil prices. Besides, the sanctions imposed by the USA, EU and some other countries because of the Ukraine crisis also had negative impact on the weakening of the ruble.
