Energy forecasters from the European Union consider that the idea of the Turkish Stream construction is economically failed. Maros Sefcovic, the current Vice President of the European Commission, in charge of Energy Union, gave such an assessment to the project. Russia is considering the pipeline installation through Turkey as an alternative to the South Stream which was closed due to recent geopolitical events. European partners could not reach a consensus on further construction for a long time. Some participants opposed the "closing up of the project" to the utmost. Thereafter, Russian President Vladimir Putin, during his official visit to Turkey, announced plans to modernize the existing Blue Stream and the readiness to build new projects on the border between Turkey and Greece for further fuels transportation to the EU. The representative of the state-owned company Gazprom said that the new line will handle the same amount of gas as the South Stream, and Turkish partners will receive a competitive price and additional discounts. The news came as a surprise for the European Union where the appropriate changes in the concept of the Energy Union are urgently being made. Given new circumstances, European officials have to change the energy policy completely. A single strategy will be presented before February 25.
