The IMF promise to provide large-scale financial support to Ukraine may lead nowhere. Despite the fact that Christine Lagarde said about a positive decision to give $40 billion to stabilize Kiev’s finances, most experts doubt that this promise will be kept. According to Christine Lagarde’s official speech, the IMF mission in Kiev reached an agreement with Ukrainian authorities. The agreement includes the issues of a new program and economic reforms, which will be based on the extended crediting of about $17.5 billion from the IMF and additional resources from the international community. It should be noted that Ukraine does not need long-term financial support projects, but it needs real money. The Ukrainian economy is in recession and its gold and currency reserves hit the11-year low. However, the speech of the IMF managing director practically did not influence the market. Ukrainian 2023 Eurobonds slightly changed in price, their yield declined only by 2 points to 19%. Lagarde said nothing about investors, who were to give $40 billion, she did not mention the crediting period, and she used abstract phrases speaking about Ukraine’s support. Ukrainian economic expert Alexander Ohrimenko supposes that the IMF will give only $4 billion in order not to provoke a default.
